Reverend Deacon Robert J. Macaluso
Deacon Bob Macaluso’s journey of faith began in Forest Hills, NY, as a student at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Grammar School where he served first as an altar boy in the 1960’s and then as a lector in the early days after Vatican II. That foundation led to his entering the “seminary system” of the Brooklyn Diocese at Cathedral Prep High School and, upon graduating, continuing his seminary training for the priesthood at Cathedral College for two years until transferring to New York University to pursue academic courses, and finishing with degrees in philosophy and political science. After marrying Karen Dewar in 1979, he began a lifelong career as a home furnishings representative for Schumacher and Scalamandre. Deacon Bob returned to seminary life in formation for the permanent diaconate in 1999 until his ordination in 2004. Since then, he has served at parishes along the Connecticut shoreline until Archbishop Christopher Coyne appointed him to serve as deacon of Saint Margaret’s in February of 2025. Here’s what Deacon Bob had to say after beginning his 5-year term at Saint Margaret’s Parish: “I’ve been on a ‘shoreline circuit’ that began 20 years ago at Saint Vincent de Paul in East Haven and I’m thrilled that Father Dan has offered me the opportunity to join the people of Saint Margaret’s on their faith journey. I’ll continue to live at Foxbridge Village in Branford with Karen my wife of 46 years. Completing our family is Karen’s sister, Patty, and our two dogs, Gracie and Luca. On second thought, what ‘completes’ our family is all of us here at Saint Margaret’s who belong to God and to one another ‘in Christ.’ May we be forever joyful and grateful for his grace.”
